329 13th Ave. NE, Mpls.; 612-623-4211 Go to Europe for dinner? That’s what it feels like when you walk into The Peacock Lounge, the main entrance for Erte’. The Lounge has a theatrical flair with the elevated Bird Cage Stage, showcased with floor to ceiling maroon velvet curtains. The 32 foot zinc top bar and mahogany raised paneled base add to the room’s old world charm. Entry to Erte’ is through massive mahogany doors which draw your eye up the mustard walls to the plum maroon upper walls and then on to the original tin ceilings 16 feet over your head. Even though there’s a European feel, the menu is definitely American with its emphasis on steak. They’re quality cut, and value priced and then there’s the old Erte' standard, the tender Brisket that’s been slowly roasted for a day and a half. And if you’re not in the mood for steak, there’s walleye, Star Prairie Trout, Catch of the Day, Porketta, Faux Fried Chicken, Chicken Saltimbocca and five incredibly generous salads. This is Euro/American at its best. There is a wonderful selection of appetizers and intriguing side dishes like Popeye Creamed Spinach, Le Smush Mashed Potatoes, and the Potato Au Gratin with Gruyere cheese and caramelized onions. All the desserts are made on site and change seasonally; the Key Lime Pie is so good it’s become a trademark dessert. Dinner hours are 5-9pm Monday through Thursday, and 5-11pm Friday and Saturday. Erte’ offers half price bottles of wine on Monday and Tuesday and Happy Hour is Monday through Saturday from 4-7pm and 10-12pm in the Peacock Lounge. Lunch, with a variety of sandwiches and salads, is Monday through Friday from 11-2pm. Erte’ is located at the corner of 13th Avenue and University Avenue in the heart of Historic Arts District in Northeast Minneapolis. |
